ACCREDITATION

Proof, not promises.

Every ethical claim we make for New Zealand clients is backed by the certification of the garment or brand it applies to.

Ethical clothing certifications you can check

OCC Apparel supplies New Zealand organisations with garments certified to independent ethical and environmental standards. Each certification belongs to a specific brand, fabric or style, so we list it per garment. If a garment isn’t certified, we don’t say it is. Ask which standard applies to each style when you request a quote, and we can supply the supporting certificate.

The standards

  • GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard): the world’s leading processing standard for organic fibres, covering ecological and social criteria, with independent certification of the whole textile supply chain.
  • Fairtrade: better prices, decent working conditions and a fairer deal for farmers and workers, independently certified.
  • Fair Wear: an independent, non-profit organisation that works with brands and factories to improve labour conditions for garment workers. Stanley/Stella is a Fair Wear member brand.
  • GRS (Global Recycled Standard): owned by Textile Exchange, it verifies recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices and chemical restrictions.
  • OCS 100 (Organic Content Standard): verifies the presence and amount of organic material (at least 95%) in a final product and tracks it from source to finished product.
  • OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100: every component of the article, down to thread and buttons, has been tested for harmful substances.

Decoration with the same care

A certified garment can still be printed with the wrong inks. Water-based screen printing inks are available for every job, and we’ll recommend inks that suit organic garments when we quote. See our screen printing page.
